The challenge

Modern day Hong Kong may be best known for its glossy skyscrapers and world-class attractions, but to understand how the city became the bustling metropolis that it is today, visitors need to see Old Town Central; a collective of neighbourhoods with over 100 years of history.

 

The Hong Kong Tourism Board needed to make sure that tourists were getting the “authentic” experience of Hong Kong’s oldest and recently hippest neighbourhood. 

​

There are numerous colonial monuments, temples, art galleries, antique stores, street art displays, restaurants, rooftop bars, local delicacies, and many other hidden gems at every turn, representing the diverse elements of heritage, art, culture and dining.

​

Create an experience that brings all of these elements together and can be enjoyed by tourists as well as locals.

The work

An an immersive installation that blends art, history and technology.

 

The “Explore Old Town Central” immersive installation showcases detailed illustrations that capture all the characteristics of Old Town Central – from art, heritage, dining and culture. Simply hover your hands above the 8 key hotspots on the map to be taken there and interact with different elements of the illustrations.

These animated scenes were painted by local illustrator Flyingpig to create a delightful interactive experience.
